Subject: Cardboard domes

I've started to redesign the template for the cardboard dome. The
ones we did 5 years ago in Buffalo were a single-fold that could be stapled
together with the next panel over. This new design incorporates several
folds and a tab & slot design like the one used on the production models of
the Synergy Ball ( http://www.sculptors.com/~salsbury/Synergy/ ) to remove
the need for stapling, and provide a triangulated beam for extra strength
on the edge of each triangular panel.

This new house has a two-car garage (currently full of our stuff)
which may make for a nice workshop, and a large sunny spot in the lower
yard about an acre or so in size. I'm going to try to build some larger
models (1/2 or full scale) and leave them out in the Boulder Creek rain for
a season, to see how they weather. (Boulder Creek averages about 60" of
rain between Nov-Feb/March, and probably more with El Nino this year, so it
should be a fair test of durability... ;^) )

Whenever I get a chance to scan in some photos, or borrowing a
friend's digital camera, I'll post some pictures on the website.
