Apparently Africa needs techies. Just found this link on http://slashdot.org
which points to some articles the Boston Globe is running.
The articles are here:

Here's the intro writeup from Slashdot:

about high tech in Africa--- talking about how the
continent needs a lot of geeks willing to work there to build Net
infrastructure. (Anyone want to take on a big project?) The series as
a whole is interesting and sheds light on a topic that most American
geeks probably don't spend time thinking about. See also part 1,
about the new high-speed fiber link to Africa and part 2, about
cybercafes in Africa."
This actually sounds right up my alley. I like big projects. :-) And since I'm
currently on a sabbatical after getting laid off about 4 weeks ago, I'm
fishing around for new things to occupy my time.
Along those lines, I've also been finishing lots of little projects, and
working on some of the bigger ones. More work recently on the emergency
shelter domes. (A page is about to be launched. Hopefully in the next few
days.)
Also, lots of recent work on the Autonomous House models & renderings.
I've done some 1280x1024 wallpaper renderings with actual window panels.
Rather than being all clear or all opaque, I've started interspersing windows
& skylights, so you can see what it would look like with traditional wall &
window panels (like the dome I currently live in) or by switching on and off
the various LCD light-shutter panels that I want to implement.
