If you don't care about insulation, or high strength, simply cut your
sheathing with a pattern, and connect with a Simpson Strong-Tie LS 50. The
angle is flexible and you can tie together any frequency you might choose.
The ties are about $0.95 each.
I don't recommend this procedure, but if you are simply using the
building for storage and you won't be working or living in it, go for it.
I personally prefer an insulated building which is built to last. The
14 foot storage dome I just built has plenty of room, can be disassembled and
moved, has R-23 insulation, and was cheap to build. The basic framing with
connectors was only $299.35 using 8/7/00 midwest pricing. The dome sheathing
cost $122.72 more while the foundation and kneewall cost $322.20. The high
tech roofing was $323.00 while the compound insulation was $383.25. The cost
of the loft is not included, but the loft adds enough room for a king size
mattress or 2 twin mattresses.
You can see how much I value having a portable building by the amount
of money spent on a lightweight roof along with high tech portable
lightweight insulation. The kneewall is designed such that although a level
building site is nice, it isn't necessary. Being as the building is less
than 200 s.f. and no city permit is required, I simply used some excavation
from a neighbor's basement excavation along with some leveling sand to simply
lay out a flat surface with no piers used.
