We have been interested in hydroponics for a number of years. Below are links to some of our research, and what we've learned thus far.

• Hydroponics and Housing in the 21st Century (1996)
  A paper Patrick presented at the 17th Annual Conference of the Hydroponics Society of America
• Our first setup (1997)
  Built on our back deck in Boulder Creek, CA. Non-organic, but with an incredibly good yeild that we've yet to match.
• Our second setup (1998)
  Wherein we build our geodesic greenhouse at our new geodesic house, and learn about the necessesity of proper ventilation and water flow. The greenhouse survived, but I think only 2 plants made it through that summer. :-(
• Our third setup (1999-2000)
  An expanded greenhouse, automated vents, solar powered fans, computer controlled automated watering system, recycling organic aquaponic nutrient supply...the works. Unfortunately we don't have many pictures of the inside during this phase. The nutrient balance from the fish-barrel also was not quite right for the plants' needs, so we ended up with somewhat scrawny/spindly plants and/or stunted growth, yellowed leaves, etc.
• Our fourth setup (Winter, 2000-2001)
  New improvements to the greenhouse, an all-new hydro system, balanced, commercially available (organic) nutrients, and a much more positive outlook from our first crops.
• Episode 2001 - Attack of the Woodrats
  ...Wherein we find our heroes doing all manner of Silly Things to try and save their plants from utter devastation at the hands of The Woodrats...
• Episode 2002 - A New Hope...
  ...Wherein our heroes re-engineer the greenhouse to resist rodent incursions...
• 2003
  Our first really good tomato harvest and first 2-year old tomatoes.
• 2004
  Expansion into a second greenhouse, and more 2-year old plants.
